How to install correctly: advisor, script, indicator, template and profile in MT4?

Step-by-step instructions for installing experts (advisor, script, indicator, templates and profiles) in the MT4 trading terminal for beginners!

In principle, installing files in the Metatrader 4 trading terminal differs little from the type of operating system on the computer, since the folder with the terminal itself is the same.

The main thing is the sequence of installing files in folders with MT4, and it is identical on all systems. This is necessary for the installed Expert Advisor to work correctly and display all the necessary data on the chart and the required functionality to work.

Installation of Expert Advisors in MT4

At the time of installing the MT4 program on your computer, you can choose the path where all the files will be installed. It is in this folder that all subsequent files should be installed.

Files are divided by extension and purpose, each type of expert is assigned its own folder with a specific name.

As an example, let's choose the path for installing MT4 on the desktop, then the whole path will look like this (example with Windows 7):

This makes it easier to search for the folder with the terminal later and in general for quick access, but of course you can choose any path.

Installing an Expert Advisor in MT4

Computer => Local Disk (C) => Users => Username ⇒ Alpari Limited MT4 => MQL4 => experts. The advisor file remains in the experts folder, if any additional files go to it, copy it to the directory where they should be located (look again by the folder name).

Installing the script in MT4

Computer => Local Disk (C) => Users => Username => Alpari Limited MT4 => MQL4 => experts => scripts. Leave the scripts in the scripts folder.

Installing the indicator in MT4

Computer => Local Disk (C) => Users => Username => Alpari Limited MT4 => MQL4 => experts => indicators. We leave the indicators in the indicators folder.

Installing a template in MT4

Computer => Local Disk (C) => Users => Username => Alpari Limited MT4 => templates. Saved templates live immediately in the templates folder.

Installing a profile in MT4

Computer => Local Disk (C) => Users => Username => Alpari Limited MT4 => profiles. Upload the profile to the profiles folder.

After the work done, for the changes to take effect, you must restart the terminal (close and open again).

Launching the terminal is easy, if you have a lot of terminals, then you can not create shortcuts at all, but simply go to the desired folder with MT4, click on the file: terminal.exe and the program will start.
